Transformation of the Bout-du-Monde Sports Centre

Transformation of the Bout-du-Monde Sports Centre
Bout-du-Monde offers a rare opportunity to bring a major public sports facility into dialogue with an alluvial environment of exceptional quality. This is not a project for sports fields in a park; rather, it is a project in which the park, the river and biodiversity shape the sporting activities.
The site’s layout is based on a clear reading of its geography. A large, built-up plateau accommodates the main sports facilities. Below, the riparian woodland is given the space it needs to develop. Between these two worlds, a landscaped buffer zone becomes a space of exchange, where activities, biodiversity and water management come together.
The division into three parallel bands gives each sports facility a clearly defined place, making the different programmes legible and recognisable, even from outside the site. From the forecourt, access through the central vaulted passage leads either to the internal street, on one side of the entrance, which distributes most of the building’s functions, or to the swimming pool, which requires a separate entrance to allow independent operation.
The internal street runs through the building, offering a direct view towards the opposite side of the site from the moment of entry, while preserving visual continuity.
