The project involves the renovation, elevation and extension of buildings on plots bounded by rue des Pénates, rue des Charmilles and Avenue des Tilleuls. The aim is to restore coherence to the neighborhood. It is part of a respectful and rational approach to its immediate surroundings, establishing a strong relationship with the site, and in particular with the adjacent building. The approach adopted consists in extending the elements of the template, creating lines of force that create a veritable “urban piece” capable of interacting with its context on several scales. This interaction manifests itself by reacting specifically with each of the adjacent streets.
Without enclosing the triangular block, the intervention integrates into the existing template, while preserving the visual openings that let in the light. This arrangement also allows for the creation of gardens on the first-floor roof terrace, bringing an additional quality of life to the heart of the block. The facade rendering, in a warm, light shade, is in line with the surrounding buildings, creating visual homogeneity while respecting the identity of the district.
The addition of a second attic, which replaces the attic and crowns the existing facade, is aligned with the adjacent ridge in a quest for architectural harmony. The elevations retain their pierced wall typology, with the bays emphasized by window surrounds giving the building its character. The extension onto rue des Charmilles completes the block in a mimetic manner, incorporating forebays, corner balconies and cut-aways, while significantly increasing the size of openings.
